The Future of Work
Artificial intelligence is continually advancing into many areas of our lives. Our children will work differently or maybe not at all. The thought of this technology often triggers fears in many. Justified or not? This is what Matka wanted to know from the economist Mathias Binswanger

Globalisation and competitive pressure have prompted Swiss companies to automate heavily. Many processes are being relocated to foreign countries with cheaper labour costs. The automation will continue. Some hyped topics are Internet of Things, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence. Some say that in 50 years from now we will have no work at all, everything will be done by machines. Others claim that our economy will become much more complicated and therefore there will be much more work. Who’s right now?
Both probably. I also think that the work will almost completely disappear from production. In the future, a workshop will be practically deserted. Robots and algorithms work there to manage the workshop. It doesn’t need any more people. This also applies to a large part of the service industry. In the future, we will no longer need chauffeurs because the cars drive themselves. We also no longer need analysts, at the bank for example, because algorithms also do that. Here, too, a large number of jobs will be cut.
On the other hand, there is also an ever-increasing bureaucracy in our economy, which actually has to do with this increasing complexity. This means that processes in areas such as controlling and evaluation are increasing. More and more consulting is needed. You still have to clarify everything in more detail from a legal point of view, which means that more and more lawyers are needed and so on. These are the areas in which jobs will be created in the future. So no more jobs that have something to do with the production of goods and many services jobs will be automated as well. Large part of the people in the workforce will have spent their time controlling, evaluation, entertaining, selling, consulting.
In addition, there is the area of optimization. You have to constantly optimize everything, think about how to do something better. Many people are already involved in this today.
For example, it is difficult to increase consumption from year to year. So in the past, there was a need and production was done for that need. Today these needs no longer exist, because in a country like Switzerland we actually have everything. The basic needs are saturated. That’s why you have to put a lot of effort into creating new needs and then selling the products. This area of work will grow even more in the future.

It seems as if Matka will not run out of work anytime soon. We believe that Artificial Intelligence will above all augment people’s strengths and that in the future we will have more time for the essential. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) will automate many processes in the next 5 years and lead to massive production increases. Customers and employees can look forward to better customer experiences and working conditions.
